I’ve been thinking lately about all the reports of Micheal Dell and his new baby the [Rumored] Mini Inspiron which was uncovered by Gizmodo blogger Brian Lam after he spotted Mr. Dell walking around carrying the spankin’ new Ultra Mobile at the D: All Things Digital (D6) conference sponsored by The Wall Street Journal last week.
But, what has me interested is not Dell’s move into the marketplace but rather the effect it might have on other major players and their possible response to this major, albeit expected emergence. It’s not that I have a theory as to how this will play out but rather an interest in seeing what others think.
The questions I have are as follows:
- What will this mean for the market?
- How will this effect growth?
- How will this effect each end of the market from OLPC to High End Machines?
- How will this effect price-points?
Certainly there are a far greater number of questions to be asked and answered, I guess only time will tell for the majority of them but should this be considered “only” as good for us Ultra Mobile consumers or is Dell’s involvement in anyway a bad thing for the industry and the people who populate it?
