OLPC chairman Nicholas Negroponte, on Tuesday, revealed the next generation PC for his charity, the XO 2.0. This is an ultra efficient machine which reduces the XO’s power consumption to a mere 1 watt. Negroponte has suggested that the final price will be around $75 (WHAT?), however these will not become available until 2010, Nic cites the ubiquity of LCD screens for DVD players as a primary reason for the ability to keep the price so low and suggest that $20 per display is not out of the question. From the looks of the photo above there will be no actual keyboard but rather a virtual one, where one tough screen takes on the appearance functionality of a keyboard while the second screen acts as the viewable portion. By the way, both screen are viewable in sunlight.
This is truly amazing to me, Negroponte and Microsoft announced just days earlier a deal which will put Windows XP on the original X0 1.0 machine within the next couple months and that too was intriguing considering the small flash drive included in the ultra mini PC but with this new incredibly ambitious and I must admit Ultra Cool new dual touch screen design for under a hundred bucks? He might be reaching, but we here at Ultra Mobile Blog wish him the best.
