Have you ever wondered what kind of specs a $250 UMPC would sport? You don’t have to wonder anymore and they might just surprise you. Today Hong Kong manufacturer Bestlink has announced a Linux-based Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) which it will sell for $250 (just $180 in quantities of 100), making this possibly the lowest priced UMPC to date.
The Alpha 400 as it’s called, comes with a 7-inch, truecolor display, and is based on a 32-bit XBurst CPU from Ingenic Semiconductors running at 400MHz, reports are that this chip can also run Windows CE but the machine comes loaded with Linux already installed. The machine high very low power consumption and is extremely lightweight, all the preloaded programs are license free, with such apps as an eBook reader, mp3 player, AVI media player, Email box, picture browser, eDictionary and pain brush tool, this is well packed for such an inexpensive Ultra Mini.
